Explorations
Public, single-subject editions built on the Open History Map platform — atlases, galleries and timelines that take one slice of the world and map it across space and time.
Alongside the core map, the OHM team builds focused, public-facing editions: each takes a single subject — the rulers of an age, the ideas of a civilisation, the wineries of a region, the front lines of a war — and renders it as its own atlas, gallery or timeline.
They share the platform’s machinery (time-aware tiles, the data index, the located-views back-end) but each stands on its own domain, with its own audience. Most are assembled from open sources — Wikidata, Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap and, for the war atlases, the THOR dataset — and several refresh themselves on a schedule.
